Day 01: Flight to Paro
Flight to Paro. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. In the evening your guide will take you around Paro for orientation of the place and people.

Day 02: Hike to Taktsang Monastery and Tour the Paro Valley
The legendary Taktsang Monastery, which is also called Tiger's Nest, is perched some 600m/2000ft up on a sheer cliff overlooking the valley. It is a popular hiking destination, from where you will have a wonderful view of the mountains and valley. The hike up and back will take about 4 hours. On the way back, visit a typical Bhutanese village home to get an insight into the living style of Bhutanese villagers. Drive back to your hotel in the evening.

Day 03: Chele La Hike
Take a scenic 1-hour drive to the Chele La pass at an altitude of approximately 3900m/13000ft, with views of Paro Valley on one side and Haa Valley on the other. Hike up to clustered shelters built on sheer cliffs under the rock cave and a temple that houses some 50 or so nuns.

Walk back to meet your transport and drive back to Paro, where you visit Bhutan's national museum, a fascinating place housed in an old watchtower above the huge Paro Dzong. You will also visit Rinphung Dzong.

Day 04: Drive to Thimphu
After breakfast, we take a 2-hour drive to Thimphu, the least visited of all the Himalayan capitals. Check into your hotel, and after a short rest embark on a tour of Thimpu, beginning with a nunnery on the outskirts of Thimphu. You will then visit the school of arts and crafts, textile museum, the heritage museum, Changgangkha lhakhang (temple), national library, traditional hospital and traditional paper factory. At the end of the day, we may also pay a visit to the great Tashichho Dzong, seat of Bhutan's administrative and religious centre.

Day 05: Tour the Thimphu Valley and hike to Cheri Gompa
Early in the morning, visit the Memorial Chorten, a shrine built in memory of the late king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, where people gather to pray and pay homage. Today, we hike to Cheri Gompa (monastery). This is a pleasant rural walk, up a valley through paddy fields and woodlands via a Tibetan village. You can enter the courtyard of the gompa but entry to the main shrine is not permitted for non-Buddhists. Descend to the bottom of the hill, meet your transport and drive back to Thimpu.

Day 06: Hike to Chokortse Monastery
This morning, we hike to Chokortse monastery which is situated on a saddle. The 45-minute uphill walk passes through a blue pine, spruce and rhododendron forest. From here, the view of Thimphu valley below is breathtaking. The whole trip takes two hours. In the afternoon, browse the markets of Thimphu and later drive to Paro for overnight.

Day 07: Drive to Punakha
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, the old winter capital of Bhutan, with a stop at Dhochu La Pass, (3048m/10000ft) and enjoy the spectacular views of the eastern Himalayas. Check into your hotel, and in the afternoonl make a short trek to visit the Crown Prince's chorten and nearby villages. You return by a different route through the village to Sonagasa (the King's winter residence) and through to Punakha Dzong, following the Mo Chu river. You will meet the vehicle and visit the huge impressive Punakha Dzong.

Day 08: Chimi Lakhang Hike and explorations of Wangduephodrang Town and Dzong and drive to Phobjika Valley
After breakfast, hike the legendary Chimi Lakhang, also known as the 'temple of fertility'. It's a 20-minute walk leading across rice fields to the tiny settlement of Pana. There are very few monks at the temple, which is surrounded by a row of prayer wheels and some very beautiful slate carvings.

After breakfast drive to Gangtey via Wangduephodrang. Visit majestic Wangduephodrang Wangdue Dzong and the interesting local market. Further ahead pass through dense forests of oak and rhododendron, finally reaching Gangtey (Phobjikha). Take an evening walk around Gangtey village and visit Gangtey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in this region.

Day 09: Gangtey to Trongsa (120 km, 4 1/2 hours)
In the morning explore Phobjikha, which is famous as the winter home of the black necked cranes. The cranes migrate here from the Central Asiatic plateau to escape its harsh winters. After lunch drive to Trongsa, crossing the 3300m high Pele La pass. In the evening visit the Trongsa market.

Day 10: Return drive to Thimphu
In the morning, visit Trongsa Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture, and see the Ta Dzong, the watchtower built to defend this Dzong and surrounding region. After lunch, proceed to Thimphu via the Pele La (3353m/11000ft), Punakha and Dochu La pass, where we make a short stop once again to view the eastern Himalayas. The descent from the pass brings you the village of Hongtsho, a Tibetan settlement, and then to Thimphu.

Day 11: Thimphu to Paro
In the afternoon, we will participate in a special private prayer ceremony with Buddhist monks. There will be an opportunity to meet and receive some teachings from a Lama or a senior Buddhist monk. Later in the evening we will arrange for you to experience a traditional hot stone bath.

Day 12: Depart Paro
